Hello everyone! Siamaggiore is a town of 901 inhabitants located in the province of Oristano, in Sardinia. Over the centuries, the city has been dominated by various kingdoms and rulers, including the Romans, the Arborenses and the Aragonese. Today, it offers visitors historic and religious monuments to discover, such as the Church of San Costantino, the small oratory of the Souls, and other beautiful churches that celebrate the festivals of patrons and saints.

Origins of the name

The meaning of the toponym "Siamaggiore" still has an uncertain meaning. Some believe it refers to the famous Via Maior of the Romans, but not all scholars agree. According to Angius-Casalis, instead, Siamaggiore was already a very ancient village that existed during the period of the Kingdom of Arborea, where it developed greatly thanks to its prosperity and population. It deserved to become the capital of Campidano, which was renamed Majori and which was originally called Sia-majore.
