Sgonico

Hello! Today I will talk to you about the province of Trieste, a small and picturesque area of Italy located in Friuli-Venezia Giulia.

Physical geography

The province of Trieste is almost entirely located within the Carso territory and extends for about 30 km between the sea and the Carso plateau. Due to the loss of some territories after World War II, the province has become the smallest in Italy, with an area of only 212 km². However, despite its small size, this area is very important from a logistical point of view for the city of Trieste, which is located in the center of the provincial territory. Moreover, between Trieste and Muggia, you can admire the beautiful Muggia Bay, a real spectacle for the eyes.

Municipalities

The province of Trieste is composed of 6 small municipalities: Duino-Aurisina/Devin-Nabrežina, Monrupino/Repentabor, Muggia/Milje, San Dorligo della Valle/Dolina, Sgonico/Zgonik, Trieste/Trst. These municipalities are situated in a narrow strip of land on the coast, bordering Slovenia to the east and the Gulf of Trieste to the west.

Environmental protection

Despite its small size, the province of Trieste is rich in extraordinary natural beauties. Among the natural reserves in the area, it is worth visiting the Miramare Marine Nature Reserve, the Duino Cliffs Nature Reserve, and the Monte Lanaro, Monte Orsario and Val Rosandra Nature Reserve. These reserves protect the environment and wildlife of the surrounding areas, making the province of Trieste a must-visit area for nature lovers.

Conclusions

In short, the province of Trieste is a small jewel of Italy located between the sea and the mountains. If you are looking for a different destination, where you can relax and enjoy the beauty of nature, this is certainly the right choice for you. The small size of the province should not discourage you: in fact, Trieste and the surrounding municipalities will fascinate you with their history, art, culture, and local cuisine. You cannot miss the opportunity to visit this area and be conquered by its unique charm!
