The History of Sezze
Origin of the Name
Traditionally, the name of this city derives from the mythological era, where Hercules - the famous Greek demigod - was the founder of the city. And, according to legend, Hercules defeated the Lestrigoni, a population settled in the lower Lazio, and the son of Hercules and a virgin of the place was born in the town, giving it the name Setia, the Latin form of Sezze. This name remained unchanged for many centuries, but sometimes the town is mistakenly referred to as "Sezze Romano".
The History of Sezze
Sezze was founded as a Latin colony around 382 BC and the city participated in the Latin revolt of 340 BC that led to the battle of Trifano against Rome. Over the years, Sezze has gone through several difficult moments, from wars to scarcity of resources, but it has managed to maintain its identity and adapt to the changing times.
