Sennariolo
Welcome to Sennariolo!
Hello everyone! Today I want to talk to you about Sennariolo, a small town in the province of Oristano in Sardinia. With only 154 inhabitants, it is one of the smallest municipalities in the region, but no less fascinating.
A favorable territory
Sennariolo has a favorable geographical position, located between two flat rivers, the Riu Mannu and the Riu di Marale, which have favored settlement since ancient times. The presence of domus de janas confirms the antiquity of the area.
The origin of the name
The name Sennariolo seems to derive from the phrase s'ena de su riu, which means "vein of the river", due to the ancient spring inside the town. An old fountain, the Funtana Ezza, is still present in the area.
An important history
Sennariolo has been inhabited since the pre-Nuragic and Nuragic era, as evidenced by the presence of numerous nuraghi and tombs of giants. In the Middle Ages it was part of the Giudicato of Torres and later of the Giudicato of Arborea. After the Sardinian-Catalan war, it passed under Aragonese rule. In 1417, it became a fiefdom of the Zatrillas and then the Amat di San Filippo, the last feudal lords. With the suppression of the feudal system, Sennariolo became an autonomous municipality.
Monuments and places of interest
The church of Santa Vittoria, located on the top of the hill of the same name about 5 km from the town, was built in ancient times and dedicated to the saint precisely for the victory of the local inhabitants over the invading Moors. In the municipal area there are numerous nuraghi, including Liortìnas, very impressive, and tombs of giants.
A welcoming community
The foreign population residing in Sennariolo is only 5 individuals. The Sardinian Logudorese ## Central or common Logudorese language is spoken in the area.
The local economy
Sennariolo is renowned for the production of high quality olive oil and honey. These products can be purchased in the area.
Administration
The coat of arms and flag of the municipality of Sennariolo were granted by the President of the Republic in 2008.
