History of Senna Comasco

Senna Comasco has a very interesting history. Traditionally, the municipality was located on the border between the Pieves milanesi and the Diocese of Como, administratively under the county of Como, in the lower part of the Pieve di Zezio. However, for a brief period, Senna Comasco was an autonomous municipality. Additionally, religiously, the city has always been part of the Archdiocese of Milan and, therefore, of the Ambrosian rite, although the fraction of Bassone belongs to the Diocese of Como and is, therefore, of the Roman rite.

In the 17th century, the main landowners of Senna were the Order of St. Benedict of Santa Maria in Cantù and the families of Olginati, Turconi, and Pellegrini. From an administrative point of view, the fractions of Bassone and Navedano are attested in the territory of Senna as early as 1751. In 1807, a decree of Napoleon Bonaparte established that Senna Comasco be aggregated to the municipality of Cantù, but subsequently, with the constitution of the Lombardo-Veneto Kingdom, the municipality of "Senna with Navedano and Bassone" was reinstated.
