Brugnetto
Welcome to Brugnetto: a town immersed in the nature of the Marche region
Brugnetto, known in Gallo-Piceno dialect as "Brugnètt", is a charming town located in the province of Ancona where nature still plays the leading role. The name Brugnetto comes from the presence of a plum forest, "prunetum" in Latin, that used to be in the area. Today, the territory is divided into two geographical fractions within the municipalities of Senigallia and Trecastelli. Let's discover together what this small Marche town has to offer.
Exploring the town
Brugnetto is located on the SP 12 provincial road that connects the Adriatic coast with the Marche hinterland along the valleys of Misa and Nevola. The town is only 8 km from Senigallia and 6 km from Ripe. The Misa river flows along the southern side of the town with its only tributary, the Nevola.
What to visit in Brugnetto
Brugnetto is a town that still preserves many monuments and places of interest. Among them are the Church of San Michele arcangelo and the Antonelli Castracani Augusti Palace, known as the "Villa of 100 windows". In the church, you can admire various paintings, including the "Madonna della Misericordia" painting from 1790, which is an object of popular veneration, and the "Via Crucis", composed of 14 oil-painted canvases from the 18th century. The palace, on the other hand, is under the protection of the divinity, and the Church of Santa Timotea and S. Francesco d'Assisi, located right next to it, is consecrated and still used by the noble Martines Augusti Castracane family for prayers, solemn ceremonies, and cultural meetings. Every Wednesday, a group of faithful created by Countess Maria Pia Augusti and her son Count Giovanni recite the Holy Rosary in Latin, dedicating it to the Madonna of Medjugorje.
Church of San Michele arcangelo
The Church of San Michele arcangelo is one of the main attractions of Brugnetto. The first news of the parish church dates back to 1594 when it was visited by Ridolfi. Seeing the precarious state of the building, he had a new one built. This second building was in use for about two hundred years. In 1789, the new parish church was rebuilt by the architect Petri di Montale di Arcevia on commission from Count Angelo Antonelli. The current building is the result of restorations carried out after the earthquake of 1930 and others in 1980, commissioned by parish priest Don Carlo Paolucci.
Antonelli Castracani Augusti Palace
The Antonelli Castracani Augusti Palace, known as the "Villa of 100 windows", is another place of interest in Brugnetto. This building is under the divine protection, and the Church of Santa Timotea and San Francesco d'Assisi, located right next to the palace, is consecrated and still used by the noble Martines Augusti Castracane family for prayers, solemn ceremonies, and cultural meetings. The villa is surrounded by a beautiful park, carefully maintained, which makes it even more fascinating.
Economy of Brugnetto
Despite being a small town, Brugnetto has several small industries active in the local industrial and craft area, specializing in construction and polymer production.
