Semiana
Semiana, a small Lombard town
Hello friends,
Today I'm talking to you about Semiana, a small town in the province of Pavia in Lombardy. The city has 197 inhabitants and is located in western Lomellina, in the plain to the right of the Agogna river. The name of the town, Semiana, already appears in documents from the twelfth century and was originally called "Samignana".
History
Semiana was a seigniory of a branch of the Sannazzaro family and then partly enfeoffed to the "Reyna" of Pavia in 1470. Sannazzaro and Reyna shared the fief until 1707, when Semiana, along with all of Lomellina, passed under the dominion of Casa Savoia. In 1859, the municipality was united with the province of Pavia. At the beginning of the nineteenth century, the old municipality of Ferretto, now almost uninhabited, was concentrated in the municipality of Semiana and became a farm.
Symbols
The municipal council approved the coat of arms and flag on February 26, 1986, and they were granted by decree of the President of the Republic on July 27, 1987. The flag is a white cloth.
Culture
Museums
In the town of Semiana, there is La Casa del Contadino, a museum housed in the agriturismo of the town center. Here it is possible to admire all kinds of objects belonging to peasant life.
Notes
Semiana is a small town which, despite its small size, has a very interesting history. Thanks to its location in the plain to the right of the Agogna river, it offers visitors a truly unique experience.
