The History of Sevignano
Sevignano has a long history. The first evidence of human settlements in the Val di Cembra dates back to the Neolithic period. In particular, on the hill of Oselara, there is a Bronze Age hilltop settlement, discovered in 1962, which was made up of several huts with roofs made of porphyry slabs. The name of the village probably dates back to the time of the Roman conquest of the valley, around 15 BC, and derives from that of a Roman estate, the ''Praedium Serbinianus'', referring to a ''gens Serbiniana'' or an individual named Saevinus or Sabinius.
During the last century, there was an elementary school here, from 1800 until 1969, when students were redirected to the new Stedro location.
Monuments and Places of Interest in Sevignano
The center of the village is characterized by the beautiful Church of San Nicolò (Segonzano). The exact year of construction is unknown, but it is known that a chapel existed on the site as early as 1350. The main altar was consecrated between 1576 and 1600 and the church was then expanded in the 17th century.
In addition, Sevignano is surrounded by woods and green meadows and offers the opportunity to take long walks in nature. You should not miss the view of the surrounding mountains, a true spectacle for the eyes!
