Sedilo

Welcome to Sedilo, between nature and history

Sedilo is a small municipality in Sardinia, located in the province of Oristano. This charming village, with a population of about 2000 inhabitants, is situated in the historical subregion of Guilcer, between the Campeda-Altopiano di Abbasanta plateau and the Tirso river, the longest river in Sardinia.

Let's explore the physical geography of Sedilo

The territory of Sedilo is characterized by a hilly altimetric zone that extends along the Tirso river. The Omodeo lake reservoir occupies part of its land. The vegetation is varied, characterized by formations of cork oak, Mediterranean scrubland, and riparian areas along the river banks. Instead, the fauna is represented by various species of birds, foxes, wild boars, rabbits, and hares.

From a geological point of view, the territory of Sedilo was formed following tectonic and volcanic activity, followed by erosive and runoff phenomena that led to sedimentation within the Ottana valley. The morphology of the western slope of the territory is characterized by a basaltic plateau and numerous springs, while the entire eastern zone of the river presents a morphology determined by the presence of alternating hard and soft layers (ignimbrite and tuff).

The climate of Sedilo, according to the Köppen classification, can be defined as a temperate sublittoral climate (Csb), with mild and rainy winters and hot and dry summers. Frost rarely occurs, but some autumn and spring days can be characterized by the formation of fog.
