Barp
Three Enchanting Villages in the Dolomites
Hello friends, today I will tell you about three very beautiful and charming geographic villages in the province of Belluno: Bolago, Libano, and Barp. These three villages are located in Sedico, in the northernmost part of the municipal territory and are inhabited by about 850 people.
Physical Geography
Territory
The three villages are nestled in the beautiful nature of the Dolomites Bellunesi, an enchanting place that offers visitors breathtaking views. Bolago, Libano, and Barp respectively border the municipality of Belluno (in the Giazzoi village), Mas, and to the west with the Peron village and to the north with the Bellunesi Dolomites National Park. They are about eight kilometers away from both Sedico and Belluno.
Geological characteristics
The three villages are developed on the first slopes of the Pala Alta ridge, part of the Schiara Group. This allows the villages to have a wide panorama of the Valbelluna to the south, with sunshine that is not obstructed by the mountains.
History
Roman Era
The village of Libano could have Roman origins, using as reference the presence of the suffix "ano" present in toponyms of the same municipality.
Middle Ages
The first evidence of the existence of the three villages dates back to the Middle Ages. During this period, each village had its own lord who resided in a sort of fortified house with a tower. Most of these towers were demolished on the orders of the Republic of Venice in 1421.
Modern Age
Until the arrival of Napoleon, the Upper Part of the municipality belonged to Pedemonte and the Lower Part belonged to the Pieve of Sedico. An important source of income was the extraction of millstones between Libano and Tisoi, which were exported throughout Europe.
Local Economy
Currently, the local economy is mainly based on agriculture and livestock breeding. In addition, the villages are highly appreciated by tourists who want to discover the beauty of the Dolomites Bellunesi and spend time in a peaceful and relaxing place.
Conclusions
The three villages of Bolago, Libano, and Barp are undoubtedly a unique and fascinating place to visit, especially for nature lovers and outdoor enthusiasts. Their history, natural beauty, and traditions make these villages even more special. Are you ready to discover these enchanting places?
