Climate

Venice's climate is a mitigated sub-Mediterranean type, thanks to its proximity to the sea. Winter temperatures are around 4°C on average, while summer highs reach 28°C on average. Rainfall reaches its peaks in spring and autumn, while summer sees frequent thunderstorms. In winter, snowfall is not uncommon, but snow tends to melt quickly. High humidity can cause fog in cold months and heat in hot ones. The main winds are bora (NE), scirocco (SE) in summer and libeccio (SW) less frequently.

The artistic heritage of Venice

The cultural and artistic heritage of Venice has been recognized by UNESCO, along with the Venice Lagoon, as a World Heritage Site of Italy. The buildings and churches are characterized by Gothic and Renaissance style, such as St. Mark's Basilica, the Doge's Palace and the Church of Santa Maria della Salute. In addition, Venice hosts the International Film Festival, one of the most important film festivals in the world.

Venetian cuisine

Venetian cuisine is influenced by the proximity of the sea and the use of local ingredients. Typical dishes include mixed fried fish, sardines in saor and risi e bisi (rice and peas). Moreover, Venice is famous for its gelato and its biscuits, such as baicoli and gondole.

The history of Venice

The foundation of Venice dates back to the 8th century, when Venetians were looking for a safe haven from barbarian invasions. The city was ruled for many centuries by the Republic of Venice, which had a strong impact on the culture and economy of the city. In the 19th century, Venice became part of the Kingdom of Italy and became one of the main tourist attractions of the country.

Transport in Venice

In Venice, the main means of transport are boats and gondolas. However, the city also has a public transport system by bus. Moreover, Venice can be reached by train or plane by landing at Venice Marco Polo Airport or Treviso Airport. For those arriving by car, there are specific parking lots to leave the car, as vehicles are not allowed to circulate in the city.

Conclusion

In summary, Venice is one of the most beautiful cities in the world, with an extraordinary artistic and cultural heritage. The city is located in a lagoon and is famous for its cuisine and transport by water. Nonetheless, attention must be paid to high tides and the risk of high water in some areas of the city. Venice is an ideal tourist destination for lovers of art, cinema and good food, and is famous throughout the world for its beauty and charm.
