Origins of the name and history

Do you know where the name Scopello comes from? It is said to have originated from the Latin term scopa, which means "brush". This is because the inhabitants of the area used the branches of a plant to make brooms. There is not much information about the origins of the municipality, but it is known that Scopello first appears in a document from the 13th century.

In the 18th century, the name Scopello was associated with the famous Val Barbina foundry. From here came the material that was used to build Napoleon's ships and the iron balls for the cannons of the Franco-Prussian War.

Symbols of Scopello

The coat of arms and the banner of the municipality of Scopello were granted by decree of the President of the Republic on September 22, 1963. The banner is a blue flag with the coat of arms of the municipality and the inscription "Comune di Scopello" in silver.
