The history of Turin

The history of Turin begins in the 3rd century BC when it was founded by the Taurini. Later, the city was transformed into a Roman colony by Augustus in the 1st century BC. After the Ostrogoth domination, it was the capital of an important Duchy of Turin and then, becoming the capital of the Marca of Turin, passed under the nominal lordship of the House of Savoy in the 11th century.

In 1563, Turin became the capital of the Duchy of Savoy and from 1720 it was the capital of the Kingdom of Sardinia until the 19th century when it became the first Capital of the Kingdom of Italy (1861-1946).

Today Turin is a dynamic and diverse city, not only in terms of culture and history but also in terms of economy, science, and technology. It is the third industrial production-economic complex in the country and is one of the largest cultural centers in Italy.
