Schilpario

Welcome to Schilpario

Hello everyone! Today I want to talk to you about Schilpario, a small town with just over 1000 inhabitants located in the province of Bergamo, in Lombardy.

Discover Schilpario's physical geography

Located at the top of the Scalve Valley, this little village is part of the Scalve Mountain Community and is the furthest municipality from Bergamo. In fact, it takes about 65 kilometers to reach it! Schilpario is a place immersed in nature, ideal for those looking for relaxation and peace.

Schilpario: a journey through history and nature.

A journey through Schilpario's ancient origins

Do you want to know something about the history of Schilpario? Then follow my story! The origins of the village date back to the Roman Empire, when the iron and zinc mineral resources in the area were exploited. But it seems that even in pre-Roman times there were small tribes of Galli Cenomani.

In the following years, Schilpario underwent various influences: it came under the control of the Holy Roman Empire, was ceded to the monks of Tours and later gained its autonomy thanks to the Universitas of Scalve. With the transition to the Republic of Venice, it maintained its privileges and finally, in 1797, acquired its own municipal autonomy.

Modern and contemporary history of Schilpario

Schilpario experienced difficult moments during World War II. In 1945, with the war now concluded, a group of civilians and partisans went aboard a vehicle to demand the surrender of a group of fascist militiamen. Unfortunately, the truck was attacked by republicans, causing the death of many men.

Despite the vicissitudes, Schilpario has maintained its municipal autonomy, living in the tranquility of the valley up to the present day.

The coat of arms and flag of Schilpario

Schilpario has a very particular coat of arms and flag! In fact, they were granted by decree of the President of the Republic in 1976 and are inspired by the ancient ones that characterized the entire Scalve Valley.

My thoughts on Schilpario

I can only be in love with Schilpario! This municipality is an enchanted place that immediately immerses you in nature and history. I recommend everyone to visit Schilpario at least once in their lifetime!
