On January 1, 2014, the municipality of Scarperia e San Piero was born from the merger of San Piero a Sieve and Scarperia, with the favorable opinion of the population expressed in the referendum of October 6/7, 2013 for the merger of the two municipalities. The coat of arms of the new municipality brings together the symbols of San Piero a Sieve and Scarperia.
