Scampitella
Discover Scampitella, a small town in Irpinia
Hello everyone! Today I'm taking you to discover a small town in the province of Avellino in Campania: Scampitella, or as it's called in Irpinian dialect "Scampetédde". This town has a population of about 1036 inhabitants and is located near the regional border with Puglia, in a privileged position at 775 meters above sea level.
Physical geography
Scampitella is located along the Apennine ridge, between the Ufita valley and the Calaggio basin. If you love nature, Scampitella is the right place for you: its panoramic position offers a breathtaking view of the surrounding mountains of Baronia and Ufita Valley. You can take long walks in nature, enjoy the fresh mountain air and relax.
History
The small town of Scampitella has an ancient and fascinating history. It is likely that the "Trivici villa" mentioned by the famous Roman poet Quintus Horatius Flaccus in his Satires stood on the surrounding hills of Scampitella. In more recent times, Scampitella was a fraction of Trevico and became an autonomous municipality only in 1948.
Monuments and places of interest
If you are passionate about religious architecture, I recommend visiting the Church of Santa Maria della Consolazione, located in the historic center of Scampitella. It is a very suggestive and rich in history small church, where you can admire sacred works of considerable value.

In addition to Italian, in Scampitella people also speak an Irpinian dialect, which has its roots in tradition and the popular culture of the area.
Religion
The municipality belongs to the diocese of Ariano Irpino-Lacedonia. Religion is an important aspect of the life of the citizens of Scampitella, and many religious traditions are still celebrated with great participation.
Infrastructure and transport
Scampitella is crossed by the former state road 91 bis Irpina and is served by the Vallata motorway exit of the A16 highway, which is only three kilometers away from the town center.
