Hello everyone! Today I want to talk to you about Satriano, a municipality in the province of Catanzaro, in Calabria. This town has 3453 inhabitants and is located in an area that extends from the Ionian Sea to the hills.

The territory
The municipality of Satriano is divided between the coastal area and the hilly area, where the municipal offices are located. In addition, there are many chestnut groves in the upper part of the village, while many plants of Olea europaea grow on the hill.
The origins of the name and the history of Satriano
Gironda, Ravaschieri, Filangieri
Like many other Italian municipalities, Satriano has an ancient and complex history. It was first ruled by the Gironda family, then by the Ravaschieri family and finally by the Filangieri family.
The earthquake of 1783
Unfortunately, like many other Calabrian centers, Satriano suffered serious damage due to the series of earthquakes that hit the area in 1783. Giovanni Vivenzio wrote about this catastrophe, describing the destruction of many buildings and the fall of many others.
Monuments and places of interest in Satriano
Satriano is rich in historical and architectural beauties. Among the most important monuments are the monumental Mother Church of Santa Maria di Altavilla, a marble statue of St. Agatha from 1549 and the "Ravaschiera" Tower from 1818.
