Palmadula
Welcome to Palmadula, a fraction of Sassari
Hello friends! Today I want to talk to you about Palmadula, a municipal fraction of Sassari located in the northwest of Sardinia. With its one thousand inhabitants and privileged location, Palmadula is a charming place perfect for sea, nature, and tranquility lovers. Let's discover it together!
The location of Palmadula
Palmadula is about 40 km from Sassari, 20 km from Porto Torres, and 30 km from Alghero. But the location that matters most is the one relative to the sea: in fact, Palmadula is only six kilometers from the coast and the closest inhabited center is Argentiera, once an important mining site and now a very interesting tourist destination.
The local language
The language spoken in Palmadula is Sassarese language in the "variant" of Nurrese, also spoken in other nearby places such as Argentiera (Sassari), La Pedraia, Biancareddu, La Corte (Sassari), Canaglia, Pozzo San Nicola, and Stintino. It is a very ancient Sardinian dialect that has still preserved many of its peculiarities today.
The economy of Palmadula
The economy of Palmadula is mainly based on fishing, agriculture, and tourism. Fishing has always been one of the main activities in the country, as the coastal area offers many fishery resources. Agriculture is also very developed, especially for the cultivation of tomatoes, olives, and grapes. Finally, tourism has become increasingly important in recent years thanks to the beauty of the landscape and the sea, but also to the presence of numerous archaeological and historical sites.
The church of Santa Maria Assunta
The only place of worship present in Palmadula is the church of Santa Maria Assunta, located in the center of the village. It is a very ancient church dating back to the 14th century, which still preserves many of the original architectural elements. Inside, you can admire splendid paintings and frescoes that testify to the beauty and richness of Sardinia's artistic heritage.
Notes
Here are some interesting things to know about Palmadula:
The name "Palmadula" derives from the Sardinian term "pàmitari", which means "palmtree grove" or "place where palms grow".
The village is located in an area of Sardinia called "Nurra", characterized by a very special morphology and a great variety of landscapes.
Since the Neolithic, Palmadula has been an area of great archaeological interest, as evidenced by the numerous remains of nuraghi and other ancient constructions present in the vicinity.
