Li Punti is a lively fraction of Sassari, located only 4 km away. It is an expanding neighborhood with a population of around 5960 inhabitants. Also known as "li ponti", the toponym refers to the presence of the Roman aqueduct, whose arches resembled a bridge.
A brief history of Li Punti
The history of Li Punti dates back to the 1940s when some families settled in the predominantly rural area. However, over the years, the neighborhood has experienced significant demographic and construction expansion, becoming a real town. In 1976, a parish community dedicated to San Pio X was erected in the area. The building, constructed between the 1970s and 1980s, features a large dome and a 30-meter-high bell tower with a luminous cross, where celebrations for the patron saint are held on August 21st.
In the 1990s, Li Punti experienced a phase of economic and demographic development with the establishment of new businesses and services. In 2005, public housing was financed to accommodate a thousand people.
