If you have ever visited the Apuan Riviera, you will already be aware of the beauty of its coastlines and the charm of its many coastal towns. A Fascinating Geography

Marinella is part of the Municipality of Sarzana and borders the province of Massa Carrara, the municipality of Ameglia and the hamlet of San Lazzaro di Sarzana. It is also practically contiguous with Marina di Carrara, forming a conurbation with this Ligurian town.

The Marinella Estate

The Marinella Estate is an agricultural area of several hundred hectares that extends over the hamlet of Marinella, Bocca di Magra, Fiumaretta, and part of the territory of Ameglia. Inside the Estate, there is an agro-industrial village built between the end of the nineteenth century and the beginning of the twentieth century.

In the sixties, the Estate was subject to landscape and environmental constraints that prohibited building and real estate speculation in order to preserve the historical value of the village and the environmental value of the Estate. Today, its intended use is linked to tourism, breeding and agricultural production.

The Marinella Estate was owned by Banca Monte dei Paschi di Siena until the 2000s and experienced a crisis that led to the closure of the Marinella farm and the dismissal of employees.

Monuments and Places of Interest in Marinella

In the agricultural village, you can find the parish church of St. Eutichian Pope, built between 1881 and 1882 and dedicated to the Virgin Mary. In the seventeenth century, his relics were transferred to the Cathedral of Sarzana, according to the testamentary provisions of Filippo Casoni. Next to the church is the Fabbricotti family chapel, a noble chapel that has left its mark in the history of Marinella.

Furthermore, along the coast road, there is the Olivetti Colony, a building in Italian Rationalism style that is now completely abandoned. However, in November 2022, a redevelopment project was finalized that envisages the creation of a tourist resort in four years.
