Scarcelli

Hello everyone! Today, I want to talk to you about Scarcelli, a charming hamlet in the municipality of Saponara, nestled in beautiful Sicily.

A brief introduction

To start, I must tell you that Scarcelli is only 1.30 kilometers away from Saponara and is located at an altitude of 115 meters. This hamlet, with its 868 inhabitants, is the most populous in the area and is therefore a popular destination for tourists who want to discover the hidden treasures of the province of Messina.

The history of Scarcelli

Unfortunately, in recent years, Scarcelli has been hit by some natural disasters. In November 2011, a landslide caused by a flood caused three deaths. Before this disaster, other landslides had hit the town in 1972 and 2009, but without causing such serious damage. Then, in June 2017, a large fire hit the area, causing further damage. Despite these unfortunate events, Scarcelli has been able to rebuild itself and is now ready to welcome new visitors.

Monuments and places of interest

If you decide to visit Scarcelli, I suggest you not to miss the Church of Sant'Antonio di Padova, even though it is unfortunately now only a ruin. Nevertheless, the atmosphere you breathe there is really unique and suggestive. If you are lovers of art and sacred architecture, you can also make a stop at the Church of S. Antonio, which is located in Via Roma.

Conclusions

In conclusion, Scarcelli is a hidden gem in Sicily, a place where you can discover the tranquility of the surrounding landscape. Although some unfortunate events have tested the resilience of its inhabitants, Scarcelli has never lost its welcoming spirit.
