A Dip into the History of Santopadre

Originally, the town was called "Fiorolo" or "Forolo," then the name was changed to "Castro Forolo" when it was surrounded by walls, assuming the status of a "castrum" ("fortified city"). The current name of Santopadre is due to the devotion to Folco confessor, a hermit who lived near the town and is the current patron saint.

Monuments and Places of Interest

The Salcio fountain is an important point of interest in the town. Along the circumferential road passing underneath the town, this mid-19th century fountain was restored in 1990 and features a cistern from Roman times.

Society and Religion

The majority of the population professes the Catholic Church within the diocese of Sora-Cassino-Aquino-Pontecorvo.

Economy of the Municipality

In 2015, there were 53 companies operating in the municipal area, representing 0.16% of the provincial total (33,605 active companies), which employed 87 workers, 0.08% of the provincial data; on average, each company in 2015 employed one worker (1.64).

Infrastructure and Transport

Santopadre is served by the Avezzano-Roccasecca railway thanks to the Santopadre station, as well as the main roads SP 242 and SP 238.

Sports

The A.S.D. Terra di Cicerone competes in the male championship of Prima Categoria and represents the towns of Arpino, Fontana Liri, and Santopadre. Home matches are played in the sports facility of Fontana Liri.

Administration

In 1927, following the reorganization of the provincial jurisdictions established by the fascist government, when the province of Frosinone was instituted, Santopadre passed from the province of Caserta to the province of Frosinone.

In summary, Santopadre is a small municipality, but with interesting elements of historical, architectural, and cultural value. Perfect for those seeking tranquility and serenity away from the frenetic rhythms of big cities.
