History of Santa Venerina

The origins of Santa Venerina date back to its geographical location: located on the border between the Priorato di San Giacomo, the Acireale forest, and the county of Mascali, the area was fragmented into several parts. However, the Salaro river was long considered the natural border between Aci and the county, crossing the regia trazzera that connected Messina with Catania. The boundary taxed by the Acesi guards of the Senate of Jaci led to the construction of the first inhabited nucleus, with the construction of a chapel dedicated to the patron saint of Jaci, Saint Venera. This event led to the construction of the first houses and the arrival of migrants from all over Sicily, which initiated the settlement process.
