Pastina

Pastina: a picturesque hamlet in Tuscany

Hello everyone! Today I'd like to talk about a charming place I recently visited in Tuscany: Pastina. It's a hamlet in the municipality of Santa Luce, located in the province of Pisa. This enchanting village is surrounded by Tuscan hills and crossed by the Rotini stream, one of the tributaries of the Fine river. Pastina is situated along the Provincial Road 13 of Commerce, midway between Santa Luce and Pomaia, and is easily reachable by car. Let's discover together the history and beauties of this magical place!

Physical geography

Pastina is situated on a hill from which you can enjoy a magnificent panoramic view of the surrounding green hills. The hamlet is located along the Provincial Road 13 of Commerce, a few kilometers from the municipal capital, and is about 45 km from Pisa. The Fine river and its tributary, the Rotini stream, run through the area, contributing to creating a suggestive and lush environment.

Pastina: history and beauties of a Tuscan hamlet.

History

The hamlet of Pastina probably dates back to the end of the 13th century, as evidenced by the existence of the parish of San Bartolomeo, mentioned in 1301. However, this parish was not present in the catalogue of the diocese of Pisa in 1271, but only in that of 1377. In 1833, the hamlet had around 450 inhabitants. During World War II, Pastina was heavily bombed by the Allies.

Monuments and places of interest

One of the main attractions of Pastina is the Church of San Bartolomeo, a beautiful parish church dating back to 1576. The building was reconstructed with materials from the old church and renovated in neoclassical style in 1839. After the bombing in 1944, the church was restored. Inside the church, there is a canvas from the 17th century and an organ by Cesare Tronci from 1870. The feast of the patron saint, San Bartolomeo, is held every year on August 24th.

Another interesting place to visit in the area is the Church of San Michele di Guardia, an ancient medieval church that unfortunately no longer exists but was once the seat of the parish.

Conclusions

In conclusion, if you want to spend a day immersed in the nature and history of Tuscany, I recommend visiting the hamlet of Pastina in Santa Luce. This enchanting place will offer you moments of peace and serenity, as well as a breathtaking view of the Tuscan countryside and the opportunity to discover the history and traditions of this area. I can't wait to go back!
