Sant'Urbano

Sant'Urbano: a scattered municipality of Padua

Hello everyone! Today I want to talk to you about Sant'Urbano, a municipality with 1911 inhabitants in the province of Padua in Veneto. First of all, it should be noted that it is a scattered municipality, which means that the municipal seat is not located in the homonymous village but in Ca' Morosini.

History

To know the history of the municipality, it is important to know the symbols that represent the territory. The coat of arms and the gonfalon (flag) were granted by decree of the President of the Republic on December 15, 1981. The green band represents the position of the village near the left bank of the Adige River; the wheat ear highlights that the economy of the area is mainly based on agriculture; the lion of San Marco, a symbol of Venice, besides recalling the reclamation works carried out by the Serenissima from the 15th century onwards, recalls an event that occurred in 1513, when, in the Rotta Sabbadina hamlet, the Venetians broke the river banks to stop the advance of the troops of the League of Cambrai. The gonfalon is a white cloth.

Monuments and places of interest

In this village, like in every respectable village, there are many monuments and places of interest to visit. Among the religious buildings, for example, we find the parish church of San Gaetano, in the hamlet of Ca' Morosini (20th century), the parish church of San Giorgio, in the hamlet of Carmignano (late 18th century), the parish church of Sant'Urbano, located in Via Chiesa 8 in Sant'Urbano, and the parish church of San Giovanni Battista, in the hamlet of Balduina, built between 1921 and 1926. Among the civil architecture, we find instead Villa Nani, Loredan (early 16th century), Villa Rezzonico, in the locality of Rotta Sabadina, and the Chiusa alla Rotta Sabadina, a hydraulic work now abandoned.

Society

Regarding the demographic evolution, Sant'Urbano has 1911 inhabitants and is divided into four hamlets: Carmignano, Sant'Urbano, Ca' Morosini, and Balduina. In addition, there are many localities such as La Sturara, i Gorghi, and il Ponte Nuovo in the municipality.

Anthropogenic Geography

The best-known locality in the municipality is La Sturara because it is located in the middle of the hamlets of Carmignano and Sant'Urbano.

Administration

Regarding the administration, I inform you that at the moment the municipality of Sant'Urbano is governed by the mayor Stefano Tiozzo.
