Over the centuries, the territory of the municipality has undergone numerous historical vicissitudes, such as the immigration of settlers from the Germanic area around the year 1000 and the adherence to the Episcopal Principality of Trento. In 1818, Sant'Orsola became an autonomous municipality and, after the end of World War I, was annexed to Italy. During World War II, the Mocheni Valley experienced the phenomenon of the Options in South Tyrol.
