History
The symbol of the municipality is a tower flanked by two pine trees, which recalls the presence of an ancient castle. Tradition has it that Sant'Angelo all'Esca was founded by Angiolo Castriota, called "di Esca", a leader in the wars between Angevins and Aragonese. Over the centuries, the town was ruled by various noble families and saw the passage of the Austrian army during the First World War.

Traditions and folklore
Sant'Angelo all'Esca has two of the most important popular festivals in the area. "Lo pastiero" takes place every December 29th in Piazza Dante Alighieri and consists of the preparation of a huge timballo of 40 kg of pasta, 70 kg of cheese, and 2,200 eggs. The cooking of the dish is accompanied by popular songs and ancient rituals.
Another important event is "escaJazz," a jazz music festival organized by the eponymous association, which takes place every August 8th and 9th on a panoramic terrace overlooking the Irpinia region. The festival has seen the participation of great jazz artists from the international scene and offers a wide range of collateral events, such as music workshops and wine tastings.
