Sant'Agata Bolognese
Welcome to Sant'Agata Bolognese!
Hello everyone! Today we will talk about a very interesting Italian town: Sant'Agata Bolognese. We are in the metropolitan city of Bologna, in Emilia-Romagna, and this town of 7,310 inhabitants has been part of the Water Land Union of municipalities since January 2012. But that's just the beginning: come and discover the history and wonders of Sant'Agata with me!
History
First of all, who lived in these lands before the people of Bologna? Excavations in the Montirone area have shown us the ancient residential settlements of the Bronze Age and the Villanovan culture. But the history of Sant'Agata really begins with the city of Otesia, a municipality of the Roman Empire founded and prosperous in the Christian era. In the 5th century, however, Attila's barbarians destroyed the city, forcing the population to build various castles such as Adile, Montirone, Gruiglio and Veraso. Sant'Agata thus became a faithful defensive outpost of Bologna, to which it has belonged since the 15th century.

Architecture
The historic center of Sant'Agata is truly fascinating. From the moment construction of the castle began in 1020 until the building of the houses with porticos in the 1300s, passing through the bell tower completed in 1189 and the Oratory of the Holy Spirit with its frescoes by the school of Raphael built in 1473, Sant'Agata has a rich history of architecture and art. This city is famous for the Taruffi palace, municipal headquarters since the 17th century, and the Bibiena theater built in the same period, but also for the parish church with some art treasures.
Fair and market
A very important event for Sant'Agata is the annual fair or market. This event has very ancient origins, having been born in 1709. The market was completed in 1730 with the covering of the "canal chiaro" that flowed through the center, from door to door.
Conclusion
Sant'Agata Bolognese has a very interesting history and the historic center is well-preserved, with many buildings of historical and artistic significance. The annual fair or market is a very important event, also for the urban landscape of Sant'Agata. Come and discover this Emilian town!
