Hello everyone, today I would like to talk to you about the diocese of Arezzo-Cortona-Sansepolcro, a seat of the Catholic Church in Italy located in Tuscany. The diocese, which is suffragan to the Archdiocese of Florence and belongs to the ecclesiastical region of Tuscany, is governed by Bishop Andrea Migliavacca and has 343,845 baptized out of 361,760 inhabitants.
Territory
The diocese extends over two provinces of Tuscany and is mostly composed of municipalities in the province of Arezzo and, to a lesser extent, municipalities in the province of Siena. A small strip of its territory also extends into the Marche region, in the province of Pesaro and Urbino. The episcopal seat is the city of Arezzo, where the Cathedral of Saints Peter and Donato is located. The co-cathedral of the diocese is located in the city of Cortona, while another co-cathedral is located in Sansepolcro. There are also five minor basilicas in the territory: the Church of San Domenico and the Basilica of San Francesco in Arezzo, the Basilica of Santa Margherita in Cortona, the Sanctuary of La Verna in Chiusi della Verna and the Sanctuary of Santa Maria del Sasso in Bibbiena.
The patrons of the diocese
The patrons of the diocese are the apostle and evangelist John, Donato d'Arezzo, the second bishop of Arezzo, and Margherita da Cortona.
The sanctuaries
The diocese of Arezzo-Cortona-Sansepolcro is famous for its numerous sanctuaries. Among the most important are the Sanctuary of La Verna and the hermitage of Camaldoli, which are immersed in nature and represent places of great spirituality. The Sanctuary of Santa Maria delle Vertighe and the Sanctuary of Madonna dei Lumi are instead two very ancient and suggestive places of worship. In Sansepolcro there is the Sanctuary of Madonna delle Grazie, while in Pieve Santo Stefano one can visit the Sanctuary of Madonna dei Lumi and in Fresciano, a fraction of Badia Tedalda, there is the Sanctuary of Madonna delle Grazie. Finally, one cannot fail to mention the Sanctuary of Madonna della Selva, located near Caprese Michelangelo.
