San Zenone al Po
Hi everyone! Today I want to talk about a small Italian municipality located in the province of Pavia in Lombardy, San Zenone al Po, or as it's called in Pavia dialect, San Zanón!
History
This city has a very ancient history, dating back to the 12th century, when it was called "Sancto Zenono" and was part of the Campagna Sottana pavese. In the 15th century, it became part of the squad (podesteria) of the Vicariato di Belgioioso which had Corteolona as its main town. In the 14th century, the castle of San Zenone belonged to the "da Codallo" family and was equipped with a fortified enclosure. In 1757, the fiefdom passed to the princes Barbiano di Belgioioso. In 1863, the municipality took the name of San Zenone "al Po".
Symbols
The coat of arms and flag of the municipality of San Zenone al Po were granted by decree of the President of the Republic on July 14, 2008. The flag is made up of a yellow cloth. Before the granting of the current emblem, the Municipality used an unofficially recognized coat of arms of red, with a golden, mulberry tree, nourished in the green countryside.
Society
San Zenone al Po is a small town with a population of only 546 inhabitants. Despite this, the city is active in promoting art and culture, particularly theater.
Demographic evolution
Over the years, San Zenone al Po has seen a steady increase in population, reaching its peak in the 1950s. Subsequently, the population stabilized, always remaining around 500 people.
Administration
Currently, the mayor of San Zenone al Po is Matteo Caspani, elected in 2019. The municipal administration is composed of a council of 8 members.
Notes
San Zenone al Po is a city that boasts ancient history and a highly developed culture. Despite its reduced population, the municipality actively promotes art and culture.
