History
San Secondo di Pinerolo takes its name from San Secondo, martyr of the Theban Legion and patron saint of the town. There is no information about the town's origin, but the first written sources date back to the Middle Ages, with the term "Miradolium" referring to the fortress dependent on the abbey of Santa Maria di Pinerolo. In the sixteenth century, the fortress was destroyed during fighting between French and Savoy-Hispanic troops.
During the modern age, San Secondo replaced Miradolo as the seat of a county enfeoffed to the Bianco counts. In the seventeenth century, there were clashes between Catholics and Waldensians, while in the eighteenth century, the town experienced significant development with the production of terracotta pottery that made it famous in the area. During the nineteenth century, the town's main industry went into crisis with the introduction of new materials, and it was necessary to re-qualify for new manufacturing and commercial activities.
Places of interest
