Welcome to the Province of Crotone
Hello everyone! Welcome to the Province of Crotone, a magnificent land in Calabria with rich history and extraordinary natural beauty. The province is located on the eastern coast of the Ionian Sea and is surrounded by the provinces of Cosenza and Catanzaro. Let's start our journey to discover this unique land!
History
The Province of Crotone was established in 1992 as a result of a request that was first made in 1957 by a group of fifty mayors. The request was only approved in 1992 when 27 mayors made a new request that was accepted. The city of Crotone is famous for its ancient Magna Graecia tradition and its industrial history. In the 1920s, it was the first industrial center in Calabria, specializing mostly in the chemical sector. However, due to severe environmental pollution, industrial production significantly downsized starting from 1993.

Symbols
The Provincial Coat of Arms features various symbols that represent the province of Crotone, including the famous Le Castella Castle.

The Province of Crotone extends from the Ionian Sea to the mountains of Sila. Le Castella is one of the most renowned seaside tourist destinations in the area, with the famous Le Castella Castle in the middle of the sea. Punta Alice, located in the municipality of Cirò Marina, is another seaside resort that regularly receives the Blue Flag award for the cleanliness of the sea. In the mountains, the locality of Trepidò, located in the municipality of Cotronei, is very popular and hosts the famous Villaggio Palumbo and Villaggio Pino Grande in the frazione of Savelli in Sila. In the Sila area, at the border of the Province of Catanzaro, we find the mountains Monte Giove, Monte Femminamorta, and part of Monte Gariglione, which are very important for biodiversity and botany. In this area, we can also find typical mountain villages like Villaggio Fratta and Villaggio Principe.

The provincial territory also hosts the Arbëreshë community, a small Albanian community that resides mainly in the municipalities of Pallagorio, San Nicola dell'Alto, and Carfizzi. The local population speaks the Arbëreshë Albanian dialect, and in public offices, the double validity of Albanian and Italian languages is permitted.
