Welcome to San Giorgio del Sannio!
Hello everyone and welcome to San Giorgio del Sannio, a municipality in the province of Benevento with almost 10,000 inhabitants. Are you ready to discover everything about our beautiful town? Let's start right away with the physical geography!
Territory and climate
Our municipality extends over an area of about 22.34 km², with a territory that ranges from an altitude of 124 meters near the river Calore up to 508 meters in altitude in Toppa. The main populated center is developed in three neighborhoods: San Giorgio Centro, Sant'Agnese, and Ginestra. Then there are the localities of Piano, San Rocco, and Marzani higher up, while in the countryside there are Cesine, San Giovanni a Morcopio, and Costa d'Arco.
The climate of San Giorgio del Sannio is continental, with hot and dry summers and cold and humid winters. However, there are significant differences on our lands, where summer heat and winter fog are more common in the flat areas near the Calore river. Instead, on the hills, there are colder temperatures, with a significant temperature variation between winter and summer.
Precipitation varies significantly throughout the year: in summer, rainfall is almost absent, while in winter, they are more frequent but less abundant, with an average of a couple of snowfalls per year. However, the town experienced a memorable event with the snowfall of 2012, when it was buried under over half a meter of snow for several days.
