San Michele all'Adige: A Municipality in the Province of Trento
San Michele all'Adige, known as "Samichél" in the Trentino dialect, is a municipality located in the province of Trento and has a population of 3,999 inhabitants. The village has a deep religious history, having been founded at the foot of the ancient monastery of the regular canons founded by the Appiano family in 1144-1145 with the assistance of the bishop of Trento, Altemanno.
History
The municipal territory of San Michele all'Adige underwent some changes over time. In 1928, the territory of the abolished municipalities of Faedo and Grumo was aggregated, but in 1952, the municipality of Faedo was reconstituted. However, on January 1, 2020, the municipality of Faedo was again aggregated to San Michele all'Adige through incorporation.

San Michele all'Adige and its hamlets are rich in religious architectures of considerable interest, including the Church of San Michele Arcangelo, the Church of the Immaculate, the Church of the Most Holy Redeemer, and the Church of St. Agatha. In addition, the ancient monastery of the regular canons now hosts the Agricultural Institute of San Michele all'Adige, today the Edmund Mach Foundation, and the Museum of the customs and traditions of the Trentino people.
Society
The municipality of San Michele all'Adige is known for the Agricultural Institute, founded in 1874, which deals with research and training in the agricultural field. Also, as already mentioned, the Museum of the customs and traditions of the Trentino people, also hosted in the monastery complex, is another important cultural institution present in San Michele.
Infrastructure and Transport
The hamlet of Grumo boasts the presence of the Grumo-San Michele station on the Trento-Malé-Mezzana railway line, inaugurated in 1964 to replace the pre-existing Trento-Malé tramway.
