San Martino Siccomario

Welcome to San Martino Siccomario!

Hello everyone, today we will talk about San Martino Siccomario, a municipality in the province of Pavia, located on the right bank of the Ticino river.

History

According to a medieval legend, San Martino di Tours is said to have lived in the area where the town is located. In fact, an archaeological site dating back to the time of the Lombard Kingdom was found and a hospice dedicated to the Saint was later built there. In the 15th century, the town was a fiefdom of the Beccaria del Mezzano and then passed to the Arborio di Gattinara until the fiefdom of San Martino ceased 25 years before the abolition of feudalism. In 1743 the town came under the dominion of the Casa Savoia and continued to be part of the Oltrepò until 1818, when it was united with Lomellina. In 1848, precisely on the Gravellone canal, King Carlo Alberto delivered the Italian Tricolour to his army, which has been the national flag ever since.
