Agnano

Hello everyone! Today we will talk about Agnano, a hamlet of the municipality of San Giuliano Terme, in Tuscany. I will tell you a bit about the history and places of interest of this locality.

History

For the first time, Agnano is mentioned in a document from 1047, in which the Agnano castle is cited. Initially, the castle was owned by the Visconti of Pisa, but in 1169 it passed under the control of the Lucchese. In the 14th century, the Archbishop of Pisa inaugurates the first Olivetan monastery in Agnano, with the church of San Girolamo.

Lorenzo de' Medici and Lorenzo Cybo

In the 15th century, Agnano becomes famous for the stays of Lorenzo de' Medici, who owned a beautiful villa here. Lorenzo Cybo also spent his last years here, before dying in 1549.
