San Giorgio del Sannio

Welcome to San Giorgio del Sannio: the Campanian mountain

Hello everyone, welcome to San Giorgio del Sannio, a municipality in the province of Benevento, located in the Campania region. Today we will talk together about the characteristics of our beloved city. Ready to discover everything about our territory and our climate?

Territory and climate

San Giorgio del Sannio is the fourth municipality in the province of Benevento by population, with almost 10,000 inhabitants, and the 36th by extension, with its 22.34 km². The inhabited center is located at about 400 meters above sea level, but there are large differences in altitude in the municipal territory, ranging from 124 to 508 meters. The climate is continental, with hot and dry summers and cold and humid winters. Despite this, there are some significant differences within the municipal territory. Summer heat and winter fog are more frequent in the flat areas, near the Calore River, while in the hilly areas one can feel the mountain effect, with a cooler and more ventilated climate.

Precipitation varies throughout the year: in summer they are almost absent, with some summer thunderstorms that, although they can cause some inconvenience, do not solve the drought. In winter, on the other hand, the rains are more frequent, although less abundant. Snow rarely falls, but sometimes makes an appearance: the last time, in 2012, we experienced a memorable snowfall that covered the town with half a meter of snow. Since then, there has been no such intense snowfall, but the snowy landscape is still a unique sight.
