Welcome to San Germano Chisone

We are delighted to introduce you to San Germano Chisone, a municipality located in the Metropolitan City of Turin, in Piedmont. With a population of 1753 inhabitants, our municipality is located in the beautiful Val Chisone, a mountainous valley that offers enchanting landscapes and outdoor activities for all tastes. In this text, we will provide you with some important information about the history, society, and administration of our municipality.

History

San Germano Chisone has a long history that dates back to the pre-Roman period. The current municipal territory was defined in 1954 when the municipality of Pramollo became autonomous again, after being merged together with Inverso Porte in 1927 and 1928. Over the centuries, San Germano Chisone has been a passage area for commercial caravans, an agricultural region, and more recently, a growing industrial center.

San Germano Chisone: History, Society, and Administration

Symbols

One of the characteristic elements of the municipal coat of arms is the water from the Chisone stream, which represents a fundamental source of livelihood for the local economy. The toad, a protagonist of local legends, is another important element of the coat of arms and represents the nickname given to the sangermanesi, known as "babi" ("toads"). The banner, on the other hand, is a yellow drapery.

Society

Demographic evolution

In recent decades, San Germano Chisone has undergone a slight decrease in population due to the movement of young people towards larger cities. However, the municipality remains a hospitable and welcoming place, where the community frequently gathers for social and cultural events.

Administration

The administration of San Germano Chisone is led by the Mayor and the Municipal Council, who represent the local community and work to ensure the well-being of the territory.

Other administrative information

The municipality was part of the Mountain Community of Valli Chisone and Germanasca, an association of municipalities that dealt with rural development and tourist programs. This association was suppressed in 2016 and the municipality of San Germano Chisone now belongs to other regional and provincial organizations.
