The history of San Gemini dates back to 1036 when the Abbey of San Nicolò was founded. This is the first mention of San Gemini, which was a free municipality between 817 and 962 within the Byzantine Corridor. The territory was evangelized by the monk Yemin, now known as San Gemine, in the seventh and eighth centuries. Over the centuries, San Gemini belonged to the district of the municipality of Narni, but it undertook a process of emancipation that led it to become a free municipality. In 1198, San Gemini conquered its political autonomy thanks to the privilege of exemption from the payment of imperial lands granted by Pope Innocent III.
