Origins and History of San Felice del Benaco

The name of San Felice del Benaco probably derives from the Latin "sinus felix", happy cove. Until the fifteenth century, the documented name was "Scovolo", from "scopolus", rock. In 1863, the municipality assumed the new denomination of "San Felice di Scovolo".

The Carmine Sanctuary is a church dating back to the fifteenth century, dedicated to Our Lady of Mount Carmel. The impressive building is characteristic of the last stage of Lombard Gothic architecture in its simplest form: rustic, strongly linked to the Romanesque tradition. The main door is pointed, with a central rose window and two single lancet windows on each side. The church has been restored many times, the last one being in 1963 for the pictorial part. On the fourth weekend of July, the statue of Our Lady of Mount Carmel is taken in a solemn procession through the streets of the town decorated with flowers and garlands.
