In later times, a first inhabited nucleus was formed around a chapel dedicated to Felice di Nola (priest). For centuries, the populations of the area remained dependent on the ancient feud of Arienzo. In 1269, it passed to the Pandoni, succeeded by the Reburco, Boffa, Stendardo, Montaldo, until the Carafa in 1791, when the six hamlets that had developed in the area managed to obtain communal independence under the name of "Six Hamlets of Arienzo". Over the years, the name of the municipality has been changed many times; after the Unification of Italy, it was called San Felice a Cancello.

Despite its ancient history, San Felice a Cancello does not have many monuments, but there are some churches of notable interest: the Church of San Felice Martire, the Church of Santo Stefano Protomartire in Cave, the Church of San Pietro Apostolo in Talanico, and the Church of Sant'Agnese in Piedarienzo.
