San Fedele Intelvi: A historical and cultural place
San Fedele Intelvi, also known as "San Fedee" in the dialect of Como, is an Italian municipality located in Lombardy, in the province of Como. The municipality, which has 1832 inhabitants, constituted an autonomous municipality until December 31, 2017, when it was merged with the municipalities of Casasco d'Intelvi and Castiglione d'Intelvi to form the current municipality, Centro Valle Intelvi.
Physical Geography
San Fedele Intelvi is located at the foot of Mount Luria on a saddle between the Telo and Telo di Osteno valleys. The territory offers a spectacular view of Mount Generoso, shared with the Swiss municipality of Val Mara.
History
San Fedele Intelvi has a long history that can be traced back to ancient times. The territory was inhabited even before the advent of the Romans. In 1335, the "comune conscilii Sancti Fidelis vallis Intellevi" was listed among the communities that were part of the pieve d'Intelvi. The city followed the events of the feud of the Valle Intelvi under the Duchy of Milan, enfeoffed by the Rusca, Marliani, and Riva Andreotti until the end of the eighteenth century.
In 1751, San Fedele also included the settlements of "Cassina Comia", "Cassina Prada", "Cassina Piazzo", Selvetta, "Cassina Brembana", Borsallo, Molino, "Cassina Pianca" and "Cassina De Bon". In 1807, a decree of administrative reorganization sanctioned the annexation of the municipalities of Laino and Pellio Intelvi to that of San Fedele. Since 1940, the municipality has changed its name to "San Fedele Intelvi."
Symbols
San Fedele Intelvi has a coat of arms and a gonfalon that were granted by the president of the Republic in 1957.
