Territory
San Daniele is a municipality located on a hill 252 meters above sea level, in the center of Friuli, and overlooking the surrounding plain. In addition, a short distance from the hill, the clear waters of the Tagliamento river host the Salmo trutta fario, called the "queen of San Daniele". The city is located near the Adriatic Sea to the south and Carnia to the north.

History
San Daniele del Friuli was the homeland of Giusto Fontanini, a famous writer and scholar of the 17th century. In 1976 an earthquake struck the Friuli region, but San Daniele was one of the least affected municipalities.
