Rore

Rore: the hamlet of Sampeyre that connects the lower and upper Varaita Valley

Hello friends! Today I will talk to you about a small Piedmontese hamlet, Rore, located in the municipality of Sampeyre in the province of Cuneo. This small village represents the geographic connection between the lower and upper Varaita Valley.

Characteristics of Rore

Rore differs from many other mountain hamlets due to its demographic growth in recent years, becoming the most populous in Sampeyre. Furthermore, since it is located on the sunny side and not far from the valley floor, it is characterized by the meeting of the streams Cantarane and Rore before reaching the Varaita River.

The hamlet of Rore is one of the four that every five years give life to the "Baio", a historical reenactment in costume that is very important to the Occitan population of the Varaita Valley. This celebration takes place in February, coinciding with Carnival.

Buildings of interest

One of the main places of worship in Rore is the parish church of San Nicolao, which is one of the four parishes into which the territory of Sampeyre was historically divided. On the façade of the church stands the date "1520" engraved in Gothic cursive characters, a type of writing that is quite rare in Piedmont.
