Physical Geography

Territory

The Province of Reggio Calabria extended for about 220 km of coastline, facing west on the Tyrrhenian Sea and south and east on the Ionian Sea. Its territory was mainly composed of the Aspromonte massif, the only plain being "a chjàna" (the Piana di Gioia), located in the south on the Tyrrhenian Sea.

Municipalities

The Province of Reggio Calabria included 97 municipalities, including Ricadi, Palmi, Bova, Plati, Melicuccà, Caulonia, and many others.

History

The Province of Reggio Calabria corresponded to the territories of the ancient province of Calabria Ulteriore Prima, established in 1817 by the division of Calabria Ulteriore into Ulteriore I and Ulteriore II.
