Geography
Located on the right bank of the Lambro River, Salerano sul Lambro covers an area of about 7 km² and borders other municipalities, including Casaletto Lodigiano, Cornegliano Laudense, and Melegnano.
History
The history of Salerano sul Lambro dates back to 1122, when the village was registered under the name Salarianum vicus. The name probably derives from the word "salt," as boats that sailed up the Lambro found this place as a landing for unloading goods and paying the toll.
In 1159, Emperor Frederick Barbarossa granted Saleriano to the Basilica of San Pietro in Ciel d'Oro. In the Middle Ages, Salerano sul Lambro first became a fiefdom of the Captains of Salerano, followed by the Vistarini, a noble Lodi family that owned it from 1307 to 1685. Later, the Sommariva were the successors of the Vistarini in the possession of Salerano, maintaining the title of Marquises of the village until the first decade of the twentieth century.
In the Napoleonic era, from 1809 to 1816, Casaletto Lodigiano, Gugnano, and Villa Rossa were added to the municipality of Salerano. In 1863, the municipality took on the new name of "Salerano sul Lambro" to distinguish it from Salerano Canavese.
Symbols
The coat of arms of Salerano sul Lambro consists of a white shield with a red cross on the right, representing the symbol of the bishop of Lodi. Below the cross, there are three willow leaves, representing the connection of the municipality with the plain of the Lambro. The municipal banner, on the other hand, consists of a blue flag with the red cross of Lombardy at the bottom.

Between 1881 and 1931, the Melegnano-Sant'Angelo Lodigiano tram stopped in Salerano sul Lambro. Currently, the municipality is connected to the main cities of Lombardy through the provincial roads SP39 and SP 115.
