History and toponymy
The toponym "Sala" was in use during the Lombard period, when it meant "land directly occupied by the Germanic garrison". The term derives from the Lombard language 'saliz', which means farm. The term "Baganza" is the name of the stream on which the village is located and was added by royal decree in 1862. The name has an uncertain etymology, but it could derive from the Celtic word "bagus", meaning "beech", as the tree is common in the Val Baganza.

It was elevated to a parish in 1694 and enlarged in neoclassical architecture style in 1801 by the Duke of Parma and Piacenza Ferdinando I di Parma. Further modifications were made to the building in 1930-1939.
