Mis

Welcome to Sagron Mis

Sagron Mis is a small and picturesque community located in the autonomous province of Trento. Welcome to my travel guide on Sagron Mis, where I will talk about the physical geography, origins of the name, and history of this beautiful city.

Physical geography

Sagron Mis is the easternmost municipality in the province of Trento, with a territory that extends on the southwestern slope of the Mis high valley. The uniqueness of this municipality lies in the fact that it is the only Trentino municipality that is part of the Piave hydrographic basin. The Mis River is the right tributary of the Cordevole and flows west of the border with Veneto, while the Rio Pezzea marks the border with Veneto to the east. The settlements are located northeast of the Pale di San Martino and south of the Cimonega Group. The highest point in the municipality is Piz di Sagron (2,486 m), while the lowest altitude is recorded in the Mis valley (730 m).

Sagron Mis: history, geography and calm atmosphere.

Origins of the name

The name Sagron may derive from the Latin word "acer" which means "sharp" or "maple", while Mis takes its name from the homonymous watercourse.

History

The history of Sagron Mis boasts recent origins. Previously, it was a wooded territory until the sixteenth century, and then became uncovered thanks to the felling of trees carried out by charcoal burners. This allowed the birth of agricultural farms and scattered residential nuclei, many of which are still present today. In the seventeenth century, the first church was built in the hamlet of Marcoi, followed by that of Tiser. Gold, mercury, sulfur, and cinnabar mines were the main mining activities that affected the area. However, the isolation and difficult access to the city made the area's development very complicated, as well as the depressed agricultural economy and the depletion of mines in the nineteenth century. Many inhabitants abandoned the territory to seek work elsewhere, especially in France and the Americas. The chair craftsmanship was the main activity of the emigrants in Europe.

Conclusions

Sagron Mis is a perfect destination for those who want to enjoy a relaxing vacation away from the usual urban bustle. Not only does it offer a magnificent view of the nearby mountains, but the city itself has a curious history dating back to the time of the charcoal burners. Don't miss the opportunity to visit this beautiful city in Trentino-Alto Adige, impossible to forget.
