Welcome to the Metropolitan City of Bari

Hello everyone! Today I want to talk to you about the Metropolitan City of Bari. Since its establishment in 2015, it has replaced the province of Bari and expanded its territory by including other municipalities. It is the fourth most populous metropolitan city in Italy, with a population of over one million people, and is located in the beautiful Italian region of Puglia.

Physical Geography

The territory of the Metropolitan City of Bari is very interesting because it covers a vast geographical area with great diversity between the inland Murgia region and the flat coastal strip. The innermost part of the territory is home to the Alta Murgia National Park and is characterized by elevations exceeding 600 meters. In central Puglia, there are few rivers, but water is present underground due to the limestone nature of the soil. This has allowed the formation of fascinating caves such as those in Castellana Grotte and Grotta di Curtomartino in Acquaviva delle Fonti.

Division of the Metropolitan City

The Metropolitan City is divided into two areas: north Bari and south Bari. North Bari includes cities such as Altamura, Bitonto, Corato, Gravina in Puglia, and Molfetta, which are generally densely populated. In contrast, the south Bari hosts municipalities of smaller size, with Monopoli being the only city set around 50,000 inhabitants. The area bordering the provinces of Taranto and Brindisi hosts the Valle d'Itria, an area famous for its trulli, dry-stone houses typical of the region.

Agriculture and Local Products

Agriculture is one of the main sectors of the economy of the Metropolitan City. The most widespread cultivation is that of the olive tree, but there are also vineyards and fruit crops such as cherries, peaches, fioroni, and almonds. Among all olive oil-producing cities, some are particularly famous, such as Sannicandro di Bari, Bitonto, and Corato, known for their production of high-quality olive oil. It is interesting to note that Sannicandro di Bari also hosts a festival of sweet olives every year in October.

Conclusions

In summary, the Metropolitan City of Bari is a fascinating place rich in history, culture, and unique landscapes. Thanks to its geographical location, the Metropolitan City is characterized by the beauty of its landscapes, the importance of agriculture and local products, and the presence of places of great naturalistic and cultural interest. If you decide to visit it, I am sure you will be fascinated.
