Torre Degli Alberi

The Castle of Torre degli Alberi: a Discovery in the Province of Pavia

Hello everyone! Today I want to talk to you about the Castle of Torre degli Alberi, a fortress in the homonymous hamlet of the municipality of Colli Verdi, in the province of Pavia. If you are passionate about history and medieval architecture, you can't miss this wonderful structure.

History

The castle has very ancient origins. Mentioned in a document dating back to the first half of the 15th century, it is believed to have been built by the Dal Verme family, who took their name from the castle itself. The Dal Verme family, originally from Verona, started their activity as condottieri in the service of the Visconti of Milan and obtained numerous fiefs in Oltrepò. Torre degli Alberi, originally a lookout post of the Zavattarello castle, became a family residence in the 19th century. In 1944, during World War II, the castle was invaded and looted by German troops.

Structure

The castle consists of a majestic square tower, tall and powerful, and a series of buildings attached to it. The tower has remained intact in its original appearance and is without crenellations. At the top, it has a string course supported by stone and brick brackets. The buildings attached to it have been modified over time, but the charm of the castle remains intact.
